With the weather map behind him, the weather forecaster last night pointed to our location and said,in melting tones “Tomorrow there will be winds gusting between 70 -90 miles per hour. If you are planning to go hillwalking or mountain climbing, perhaps you could consider changing your plans“.
True to forecast we have hurricane level winds. There have been very brief in-between lulls in the savagery of the lengthy blasts. An elderly friend of mine could not climb up the short hill to her home. She was assisted by a very much stronger, passer-by.
I don’t know what levels of winds there are in Northern England, Cumbria, (several hundreds of miles South). I believe the winds are not as heaving as ours, but they are probably bad enough. The rescue services are stretched to their limits, it has been announced, with outdoor activity maniacs!!
