FIXING THE HITCH

To all those friends who kindly responded to my crie de coeur, I am pleased to tell you that I appear to have fixed the hitch. It took a bit of thinking about and much eliminating of possibilities. Should the hiccup recur, I won’t have to spend so much time resolving it.

  1. How did you do it? πŸ˜‰

I spent too much time on eliminating possibilities from the help files in FF FAQS, none of which addressed the issue. See reply to GillyK.

  2. I mentioned it was process of elimination which has worked thus far, for me.

Why did Forefox work in safe mode connecting me to gmail and not otherwise? I compared the two modes of access and decided to work on the differences. The main difference was my Adblock. I decided to disable it on the access page. So far, so good. Adblock switches into working again on places like this, so I don’t get the horrible stroboscopic ads that we would otherwise be plagued with.

Can you tell me Gillyk, if Chrome has a facility for blocking unwanted advertising? Sprog was waxing lyrical about Chrome, but sprog doesn’t have concerns about advertisements. Apart from the recent localised frustration, a first, I have been very happy with FF,which I have used for years. It is simple to use. Apparently, Chrome needs a plug in (to be searched for) if RSS feeds are important to you.

  3. I am so glad to hear it’s sorted Menhir and only wish I had been able to offer some help…. alas, as you know only too well, I am a total troglodyte when it comes to computers. πŸ™‚

  4. I may explore the browser, though I am not really after speed. I am settled with FF. It’s more a curiosity element, now that sprog has raised the subject with me as well.
