Talk doesn’t cook riceChinese Proverb

Our Garrick’s a salad; for in him we see, oil, vinegar, sugar and saltiness agreeOliver Goldsmith 1730-1774

Dost thou think because thou art virtuous there shall be no more cakes and ale?William Shakespeare 1564-1616

A compromise is the art of dividing a cake in such a way that everyone believes he has the biggest piece.” Ludwig Erhard 1897-1977

  1. The last one is a rather clever obtuse idea, that does bear closer consideration. It’s rather like another ‘wisdom’ I have heard and used about the art of diplomacy…where you are telling someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to the journey!
