NICE TO BE WANTED

Update on utility provider: https://menhir1.wordpress.com/2019/07/12/what-price-loyalty/#comment-16574 for anyone who has not following this, the link will tell all.

Today I have been contacted three times by the electricity supplier I am leaving. I was offered a super exclusive deal for a one year fix….but, it wasn’t. It was close, but not better and there were strings. I had to agree to consider having a smart meter.  Yes, they had a two year fixed deal, it was way off the scale!!  No competition there then. The last caller from the company said they’d love to have me back anytime, even tomorrow!

My angst with the smart meters is that they have not been universal, other than in their requirement to try to control how we use fuel.  We have been encouraged, nay, exhorted by government to shop around for ‘best deals’ and the companies have been prevailed upon to get everyone on smart meters.  Each supplier used their own preferred technology. So, how could you move seamlessly between suppliers. They would not necessarily accept the smart meter you had. This was a nonsensical situation. I could talk about the distraction from fuel poverty, structural failures in the supply chain, their causes and other costly politics, but I won’t.

Series two smart meters are meant to ease the way to seeking and obtaining the best deals by being a universal for suppliers and customers. I intend to wait for the evidence. It will be sometime coming because the advertised universal meters are only just now being rolled out, and then only because the majority of customers refused to install version one.

The two year fix I am taking is with a company called Green Network Energy (GNE).  The website was intuitive and I requested a quote, but only after I had looked at the comparison websites. The difference between my supplier and GNE for a two year fix was off the scale!!!  I can only say at this early point in the change process, that communication with GNE has been straightforward by phone and online. The account will be online. I started the switch through the Moneysavingexpert site.

You may make additional savings on your prices with suppliers if you have dual fuel supplies and you don’t live where I do. We have higher prices to contend with.

So, guys, there you have it.  I’ll let you know how it all flows at some future date.  Just a note here; I did go through an awful lot of reviews for GNE on Trust Pilot. On the whole,they were pretty good, just the odd one of dissatisfaction. Don’t just take my word for it, have a look at Trust Pilot. As I said, it is too soon for me to make a judgement of my own. My every digit is crossed though.  🙂

CLASSIC EDITOR – AN OPEN LETTER – THANKS TO MR F.

Dear ALL and especially Mr F,

Your instructions. Mr F on how to find the straightforward to use classic editor led me on the pathway to retrieve it.  The classic editor did automatically open the second time I tried it;  but, now I know where to find it I will happily go through the process, if I have to, to open it up myself.

Once you’ve given the new block editor a try, it sticks to your site like a limpet, taking priority in opening up. If, therefore, you want to continue to avoid the block editor for as long as you can, and you also want to avoid the kerfuffle of finding your way back to it, DON’T TRY OUT THE NEW BLOCK EDITOR in the first place. Of course, I accept some people might wish to try it and also like it, so be it.

For those of us who liked what we had,Mr F’s instructions started as follows:

From your home page go to WP ‘My Sites’ left hand side

scroll down to to ‘WP Admin’. (it’s the last one listed)

Then click on the ‘posts icon’ (mine’s a board pin) which was the 3rd one down for Mr F. On my computer it was the second one down. It opens up a sub menu;

Then click on the ‘add new’.  This bit did not bring up the classic editor for me…remember limpets.  However- I saw;

On the top right hand side of the page there is access to settings. It’s the usual cog icon. You may have to click on the three vertical dots for a drop down menu.  In there (somewhere) you are given the option to ‘use the old classic editor’.

Happy hunting; have a delightful reunion!

WEST TO EAST AND EAST TO WEST

I think, Yes, I am pretty sure, I have sorted all the festive mailings, both terrestrial and cyber. I do know I haven’t yet hovered over the Eastern Orthodox Christmas greetings for January. A few friends who do celebrate it, seem very happy to be greeted twice, from west to east and east to west.

My cards, packing and parcelling were started later than usual. I really do like to have a couple of weeks total breathing space from it before the actual festivities. I have kind of caught up but, it has been too intensive for me. The energy of youth is not in its first bloom from where I am sitting.

Storm Deidre barrelled through here and was extraordinarily bad from Saturday afternoon and also fearsome throughout the night. There will have been major disruption.

The idea of relaxing in the calm after the storm, (literally) and what felt like Mrs Clause’ marathon without the assistance helpful wee elves, is not easy to adjust to. I must accept that I can give myself permission to sit and read my neglected books. Yay!!!

🙂

WHEN YOU GO DOWN TO THE WOODS…

…Surprising what you find:

Pretty Frilly Blue

Grounded in nature

Placed by nature -irresistible

If you peer in you may see the blue frilly butterfly on the right.

Crafted from  nature.

Nature blooming

Carved out woodland life

Dumbledore, or, could it be Gandulf…

The woods are different every visit, be it nature’s own changes with the seasons, or, things we have not yet found, all waiting for the next time we go exploring the woods.

FREE AND RARING TO GO

Yippeeee!!!  I was released from my plaster cast this week. I thought I would miss my constant companion, especially at the end of the day,  when I had got used to plonking my foot into bed with a clog fixed on it.  Curiously, I did not really feel any sense of loss.  I thought about the cast in a vague kind of way. It was a fleeting thought that wafted into a passing fog and disappeared.  I just curled up into my bed covers and slept a cosy sleep. In the morning, I awoke feeling quite refreshed and ready to ‘hirple’ *

*(Old Scots meaning to walk slowly and painfully or with a limp, to hobble; to move unevenly).

REPEAT – OPEN TO EVERYONE

Repeat- it happened again.

The New Editor obviously disliked me playing around. I published a post via its portal and it immediately uploaded …surprise, surprise! Viewing the post was a another story: it definitely excluded me, its author, as not a word I had written was to be seen by me. It showed up as ‘For Friends Only’. I had left the post open to everyone to view.

How strange, odd and frustrating. The ‘new editor’ is obviously idiosyncratic.

SUGGESTIVE BLOGGING ATTRACTS.

An increasing number of bloggers who have been around this site for a long time are saying that they don’t attract the numbers of comments that they used to and they ask why. Being an interactive site, that is a valid query. I have had the same experience.

The people I notice who raise the issue, are, in the main, bloggers who write, respond to comments on their own site but do little or no interacting with other bloggers or their sites. It is inevitable I think, that if that’s the way you blog, eventually people will seek pastures new.

Other reasons are prevalent. Style for one thing. We all have one. You might lose your early appeal. It seems to me that there are few knowledgeable bloggers who want to put their heads over the parapet on serious issues. If a survey were undertaken, I believe it would show that the vast majority of blogs are lightsome ones. It would also show that suggestive blogging attracts; there is always prurient interest.

There are the usual drop out rates, which are quite high. I have seen a lot of comings and goings. Even people with which there were very interesting connections have gone, or they’ve taken a back seat. Very few people on my current friends list have walked the same time line as me.

It’s a reflection of a transient population and how it changes group dynamics.

FLAGS OF CONVENIENCE?

I have noticed that the contact details of blog has a highlighted phone number with a national flag beside it. That is a flag of the country in which the phone number is based.

In my last blog I gave a phone number which was also highlighted and appropriately flagged up with a Union Jack as it is/was a U.K. based number. I also discovered it was linked to Skype – a sort of ‘make your phone calls here’ invitation – as was blog’s. Has anyone else noticed this?

EXCUSES

I am fed up with the excuses made in the names of;

Computers – “There’s nothing we can do, it’s the computer that does it”.

Data Protection Act. Can’t deal with this or talk about *&*&* because of the Data Protection Act.

The Human Rights Act. Difficult one this, as it spawns a range of ‘exclusive’ interpretations, (not necessarily correct ones) enabling all sorts of excuses individuals and organisations can hide behind.

What a lot of ignorance, incompetence and poor judgement is lurking and hiding behind these excuses. :yes:
